IoThon is Europe’s first research-oriented open source IoT hackathon, taking place in Janunary 18–19, 2018 in Berlin, at Einstein Center Digital Future, Wilhelmstraße 67, 10117 Berlin.

IoThon is is a focused IoT hackathon for students, researchers, and developers working on open source IoT projects, especially related to information-centric networking (ICN) and blockchains. IoThon is organized by several European universities, people from the open source community RIOT, and EU Horizon 2020 projects SOFIE and POINT.

IoThon consists of a number of optional tutorials and an approximately 24-hour long hacking session, followed by evaluation of the results and announcement of the winners. The even will be relatively small and intime, allowing people also to mingle and learn to know each other better.  We will accept some 50 participants. In choosing the participants we will balance both motivation and skills, preferring people who already have a relatively good understanding of programming and hacking in general. If your motivation is strong, you don't necessarily need IoT, ICN, or blockchain skills, as the tutorials will allow you to enhance your hands-on know how.
